Really, I had given up swearing for Lent

...or some other occasion, but that's not the point. The thing is that when one deals with the taxman, sometimes, obscenities are the possible response.
They've charged me pre-emptive tax. That is to say, I haven't been assessed yet, but supposedly based on my previous assessment, I have to start paying tax now (monthly deductions from my bank account).
Look, last year my income was lower because I stopped working halfway through the year to go to school, and I fully expect to be paying less tax (if not zero tax). This means by the time they finish assessing my record, which will be (from previous experience) several months down the line, I would have paid far more tax than I am supposed to.
Of course, once they get around to my lower income records they'll (I expect) kindly refund me the extra tax, but in the meantime, that's my money, damnit.
